7th July
I don't know if anyone managed to watch both the morning and night smackdown but in the morning smackdown the Kurt vs Undertaker match was the main event and in the night one it was half way through the show- followed by the bra and panties match between Stacy and Torrie and then clips from Jamie Noble and Nidia and then the recap from the Jeff Hardy Undertaker match. During the women's fight- Michael Cole said "and Coming up next the undisputed championship match" when it had actually already been but the winner was not clear. After an advert you saw the Undertaker and Angle in the ring and the referees made the decison that the match was a draw. Although the match was edited in America it did not affect programming. The mistake last night was made by sky, which will hopefully not happen again.

Confirmed Matches For WWE RAW Tonight Story By: Fred Cook July 08, 2002
Thanks to WWE.com for the following:
Last week was a difficult time for the Dead Man to say the least.
After nearly losing his WWE Undisputed Championship in a Ladder Match to Jeff Hardy on RAW, the Undertaker barely escaped another loss on SmackDown! when he narrowly defeated your Olympic hero Kurt Angle. All of this leads us to tonight on RAW, and you would have to imagine that Big Evil is not going to be in the best of moods. What will Taker's next move be, considering that he's slated to defend his title against The Rock at Vengeance on July 21 on Pay-Per-View? Find out tonight on RAW!
Also last week, Shawn Michaels dropped a bombshell when he announced that Triple H is the newest member of the nWo. Will The Game join his friends and create the strongest faction in the history of the business, or does HBK just have a strong case of wishful thinking? Hopefully, we'll find out more on this tonight on TNN!
Chris Benoit returns to singles action when he goes one-on-one with Bubba Ray Dudley. William Regal will also defend his European Championship against Jeff Hardy.
You can't miss RAW, tonight at 9/8 CT on TNN, live from the First Union Center in Philadelphia!

Steve Austin Domestic Update, Ric Flair's Future, more Story By: Matthew Boone July 08, 2002
Ric Flair was backstage at RAW after King of the Ring. Many wondered why he wasn't used on the show after getting a victory at King of the Ring as part of his "one final good run" and then not following it up with a speech or promo of some form. Apparently, there just wasn't any storyline written into the show involving Flair.
The locker room reaction to Steve Austin's walkout is slowly shifting to being on management's side in the debate. Apparently most were open-minded even when they got word that Austin basically left the company because they didn't know both sides to the story. However, those same wrestlers are a bit disappointed that Austin isn't returning their calls and is taking on the situation in a very bad manner. They still don't know what to think of Austin's domestic situation, but many believe it's more than possible as he has a history of being over protective of Debra.

Vince Russo Update, Rick Steiner, Matt/Jeff Hardy, more Story By: Matthew Boone July 08, 2002
Kevin Kelly is no longer in charge of booking indy wrestlers to work dark matches at WWE television tapings. The feeling was Kelly wasn't really needed because rarely does WWE book dark matches involving non-contracted talent. Kevin Kelly is now mainly in charge of producing the Confidential program and hosting the internet audio show, Byte This! On another small Kelly related tidbit, Vince Russo despises him and made it very clear in his currently unreleased book.
Rick Steiner was complaining to some people within NWA-TNA about being eliminated so fast in the Gauntlet for the Gold at the debut pay-per view. Before the pay-per view, Jeff Jarrett collected the wrestlers to ringside and walked them through the plans for the Gauntlet for the Gold. Rick Steiner was apparently in the stands ignoring the situation and had to be called down to the ring when it was time for his instructions.
Wrestlers believe Matt Hardy is the overall better worker between the two Hardy Boys. While Matt is more creative and able to call his matches, wrestlers feel Jeff relies on the same high-spots each time out.

Update On WWE Settling Their Lawsuit With The PTC Story By: Fred Cook July 08, 2002 World Wrestling Entertainment Settles Lawsuit With Parents Television Council PTC Founder Brent Bozell Issues Apology STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 2002--World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE - News) today announced it has successfully settled its lawsuit against the Parents Television Council (PTC), L. Brent Bozell III, Media Research Center (MRC), and others. As a result, WWE will receive $3.5 million and a series of non-monetary considerations, including a personal letter of apology from Mr. Bozell (see the posting at the PTC website, www.parentstv.org, and at wwe.com or corporate.wwe.com). The lawsuit centered on various statements made by PTC and its representatives linking the deaths of four children to the WWE SmackDown! television program and on statements claiming that certain advertisers had stopped advertising on SmackDown. In his letter of apology, Mr. Bozell acknowledged that the PTC's concerns with the content of WWE'S programming has been reduced significantly over the past years, and went on to admit that it was not fair to WWE to have passed on to advertisers accusations about children's deaths which were false. In addition, as part of the settlement agreement, Mr. Bozell has offered to meet with certain specific advertisers with whom he or members of his organizations met with or sent letters to regarding WWE to personally explain the basis of his letter of apology. "We have always maintained that certain statements made about us by the PTC went beyond fair comment or criticism, and were false, defamatory, and very unfair," said Linda McMahon, WWE CEO. "We feel vindicated by this settlement."

Nash/X-Pac Cause Major Scene Backstage In WWE Story By: Matthew Boone July 08, 2002
At RAW in Cleveland recently, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman, X-Pac, got the finish of the match involving X-Pac and Big Show against Booker T and Goldust changed. The written finish was originally planned to have Booker T pin X-Pac. Management felt Booker T should be getting wins as they are investing a lot of time in his push. However, Nash and Waltman worked around the writers heads and took the situation directly to Vince McMahon who agreed to change the finish to Big Show pinning Goldust.
The past few incidents involving X-Pac didn't generate a lot of commotion among the boys backstage as they were mostly related to claims of injury preventing him from working twice in one night. However this one stirred up conversation around the locker room as it, unlike the previous few incidents, effected someone's push.
Wrestlers felt it was a selfish act that really took the steam of Booker T's push. They are used to X-Pac getting out of doing things but normally it doesn't effect a storyline, such as getting out of working Heat against Jeff Hardy. However they felt they crossed the line with their selfishness by going to Vince and getting the match changed when it does effect an on-air storyline.

What You Didn't See @ RAW Last Night - The Rock, Nash's Injury Story By: Fred Cook July 09, 2002
Minutes before RAW went on the air the Rock's theme hit and the Rock made a surprise appearance from the stage. Can you say "Monster Pop?" He was there one night before his return at Tuesday's SmackDown taping in nearby Atlantic City. Think his appearance at Philly's First Union Center sold a few more SmackDown tickets for the next night?
Kevin Nash's injury cast a pall on the show. It was very obvious that he was hurt and the fans realized it right away.

Further Nash Update - Meeting With Doctor, and More Story By: Matthew Boone July 09, 2002
Early this morning, Kevin Nash will board a plane to Birmingham, AL to meet with Dr. James Andrews to discuss his quad injury, and have an MRI. After his MRI, the full details of the injury will be known, and a course of action can be taken.
The real upsetting thing about Nash's injury is that he did not know he'd be wrestling tonight. As we previously reported, his first bookings were for the weekend house shows, so Nash figured he would just be doing promos and backstage work tonight. However, when he arrived in Philly, he found out otherwise. It was such a shock that Nash didn't even have his gear with him.
Right now, head RAW writer Brian Gerwetz is receving the finger-pointing, as he is supposed to inform the talent of what they will be doing on each show ahead of time. Gerwetz's failure to inform Nash of his match is not the first time he has messed up. If you remember, Gerwetz also did not inform Austin of his match with Lesnar the night he walked out on RAW and the WWE. Gerwetz, who, from what I am hearing, is often found reading comic books and joking around backstage, is not qualified for his job, and many backstage feel that way.

More On Nash, HBK To Wrestle Soon, Rock Update, more Story By: Matthew Boone July 09, 2002
WWE went public on Confidential claiming the "This is your life" segment between The Rock and Mick Foley was the highest rated segment in the history of RAW. That particular quarter hour rating was around an 8.4 while there have been main-events that have gone higher than that such as a Steve Austin vs. Undertaker match that scored a 9.5.
The Rock is nominated for a Teen Choice award in the category of Best Actor in a Drama/Action movie. The Teen Choice award show will be taped on August 4 and will air August 19 on FOX.
Shawn Michaels will be going on the road with WWE for house shows in the form of Kevin Nash's corner-man. Kevin Nash was supposed to return to house shows on July 12 in Lakeland, Florida and HBK was expected to be in his corner for that particular date, as well as most of Nash's following house show appearances. However, now the situation is up in the air due to Nash's injury. HBK may not be appearing at those house show dates aymore. If he does, it would obviously be the same role he was to have in Nash's corner, only for another member of the nWo. There are no plans for HBK to wrestle on any of these dates. However it is considered he will eventually wrestle again sometime soon.

X-Pac/Pretzel Guy, Tajiri/Misterio Feud, Goldberg Update, more Story By: Amish Patel July 09, 2002
Last night on RAW there was a guy who dressed up as X-Pac selling pretzels. This individual is actually long-time WWE prelim worker, Inferno. Any time the WWE are on the East Coast, Inferno is usually booked. He is also booked for tonight's SmackDown! tapings in Atlantic City.
Many are claiming that Tajiri and Rey Misterio Jr. have been working very well together on the house show. It is said that the WWE will begin a feud between the two superstars, a prospect that is exciting both Tarji and Misterio JR.
It is reported that WWE have communicated with Goldberg's officials stating that Vince McMahon is willing to clear his schedule on any day that suits Goldberg to talk. As of yet, Goldberg's officials have yet to responded with a preferred date. Another matter that factors in the matter is the appointment of Vince Russo, which further complicates the matter, as Goldberg hates Russo.

John Cena Update, Al Snow/Adam Sandler, Hogan/HHH, more Story By: Matthew Boone July 09, 2002
Very early estimates of the WWE Backlash pay-per view which featured the Hulk Hogan vs. Triple H Undisputed title main event are around the 0.8 buy rate mark, or 400,000 buys.
John Cena wasn't told he would be on television for SmackDown! against Kurt Angle a few weeks ago in his debut until about 3 hours before the tapings began. Cena was on the road with the main roster scheduled to work some house show dates and had no idea he would be called up to work television for the company, let alone one of the major two shows, in a pretty large role at that.
Al Snow is in the new Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler movie entitled "Anger Management." He was off filming scenes for the movie on June 25 in New York which is why he missed the SmackDown! tapings that particular night.

More On Nash's Injury, WWE/PTC, Mankind's Return, more Story By: Amish Patel July 09, 2002
When Nash was being helped to the back, despite the nWo music blaring, he got a well-deserved standing 'o'. Hope he's not out too long. Also, the two biggest pops went out to Pat Croce and the references to ECW. The Heyman/Dreamer segment was said to be awesome.
A CNN Headline news this morning showed the WWE-PTC settlement. It got about 20 to 30 seconds, including video of the Rock.
An advertisement on WFAN 660AM in New York for Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park (in New Jersey), advertising an appearance by "former WWF superstar Mick 'Mankind' Foley." He'll be appearing on Thursday the 11th from 2-3pm as part of their Summer Sports Festival.
