Breaking News: WWE Releases Three Wrestlers, Including TV Talent
With WWE business down, it is obvious that WWE will have to make some roster cuts. They have made numerous cuts into their developmental roster in recent weeks, but have now expanded to the main roster.
The word going around backstage is that Shawn Stasiak, Mike Awesome, both main WWE roster wrestlers, have been released, in addition to Horace Hogan. They were each given 90-day notices. Additionally, word has it that some more cuts have been or will be made.
Generally, WWE was not impressed with the performance of Stasiak and Awesome since they entered WWE as part of the WCW Invasion. Horace Hogan has been rumored as a possible candidate for release for the past several months, so that also comes as no surprise.

Edge/Eddie Guerrero News Update, UPN Covers Bass/WWE
Eddie Guerrero is receiving positive feedback, from both fans and WWE staff, for his recent work. Despite having a rather lackluster match with Edge at Summerslam, the two performed fantastically at Unforgiven. Then, the two met again on last night's Smackdown telecast, and there was enormous praise for the great work. Edge is, of course, to be credited for making the matches special, but many feel Guerrero has had one of the best weeks for a WWE star in recent times.
I have heard from many readers that UPN ran a story in various markets concerning the Nicole Bass/WWE situation. Apparently, the segment aired during last night's UPN news after Smackdown and pretty much summarized the coverage that we have reported to you throughout the week.

WWE Looking To Bring ECW Back, Ratings Downfall, & More
Vince McMahon spoke for the majority of WWE's annual stockholders' meeting today and addressed many issues. The following are some highlights.
Vince feels confident that WWE will win the Nicole Bass case. He refused to settle out of court because it would encourage lawyers to always represent disgruntled employees when they want some extra money from their former boss.
Vince McMahon is seriously looking to bring the ECW brand to late-night television. WWE is currently trying to buy all the ECW footage in bankruptcy court, and if they can get a good share, they may run ECW as its own brand of wrestling (under WWE's corporate banner).
Vince feels that ratings are not down due to the lack of star power, but simply due to the roster split and its failure.
Vince said that WWE is not interested in working with NWA:TNA at this time. He feels that they have helped too many other young federations gain popularity, and with the current slump WWE is in, it is not the right time to help anyone.

SmackDown! Rating Rises, Matt Hardy News/More
- SmackDown's rating was on the rise this week as the show did a 3.6 broadcast rating with a 5 share. This is up from last week's 3.5. The WWE has to be happy with the number since a lot of the high profile premiers on both CBS and NBC were on last night.
- Foxboro, Mass. Oct. 4 - Matt Hardy will be signing autographs beginning at 6 p.m. at Spooky World, which is located in the woods behind Gillette Stadium. Autographs are free with paid admission to the park.

Rock News, Review of The Scorpion King, More
- Kevin Kelly, the man that The Rock has humiliated more often than not, has something to say about the big movie star and the release of his DVD, The Scorpion King. Below is the full article:
- How ironic that Kevin Kelly should write something about the Rock's first starring feature film, the Scorpion King. Remember all those interviews I did with the Great One where he totally emasculated me on worldwide TV?
Well, I am here to dish some dirt on the Almighty Hollywood Star. "The Scorpion King" comes out on DVD and VHS on October 1st and there are a ton of extras on the DVD, including the kick-ass movie itself but there is one highlight of the Rock's career you won't find on any DVD.
I first met Rock in 1993 in at an independent show in Hudson, Florida, about an hour north of Tampa. I was ring announcing at the show that night which featured Rocky Johnson in the main event. Rocky told us all that his son Dwayne was with him that night and somebody had the idea to get Dwayne involved in the match.
So while Nasty Ned Brady and the Cuban Assassin are pounding away on Rocky, here comes Dwayne wearing his University of Miami jersey and he helped clean house, saving the day for his father.
So while you are watching "The Scorpion King" on DVD which comes out on October 1st, remember that we all come from somewhere, even Hudson, Florida.
I am going out on a limb here but I predict that if the Rock sticks with it, he just might make something of himself.

Lillian Garcia's New Single, The World/SmackDown!
- Lilian Garcia has announced that she will be releasing her first single, "Shout," under the Universal Records label on October 8th. She will also be releasing a full album in early 2003. The single was produced by Merideth Brooks, who you might remember for her hit single "pregnant dog."
Lillian sent out the following note to her fans; "All of you have been truly wonderful to me. I have really enjoyed reading all your e-mails and writing back to each of you. I have also been lucky enough to meet some of you in person. I can't tell you how important you are to me. If I ever needed you, now is the time. You have been kind enough to ask me how you could help, well, there are two ways. One is by calling your local pop/rock radio stations and requesting to hear "Shout" and the other is to run to your local record store and grab a CD! I am going to flip out when I hear it on the radio!"
Her official record launch party will be held at WWE's The World in Times Square on Thursday, October 3rd. You can get in starting at 6:30pm and stay to see Smackdown from 8-10pm. She will also be giving away copies of her single and signing autographs.

WWE Changing Style, Tough Enough, Austin/WWE
- WWE are having the bottom half of house show cards feature very minimal punching and kicking. The reason behind this is because it is believed that too many of the lower matches are using punch and kicks and therefore taking the heat away from the top half of the card as that is a well known part of WWE's main event style. Another reason is that it is believed many lower card wrestlers need the opportunity to improve there actual wrestling moves and hold techniques and by not allowing punch and kicks those wrestlers will be forced to improve. This is a similar idea that is used in many Japanese promotions.
- Word is that as series 3 of MTV’s Tough Enough comes to a close the male contestants are by far the more superior wrestling talents. Most believe that like last series two people of the same sex will win but this time both being male.
- The episode of Confidential scheduled for tonight is a repeat of the episode based around Steve Austin's walk out.

Eric Bischoff's Backstage Reputation, Billy/Chuck, More
The following news is from the PWTorch newsletter.
- When Eric Bischoff was in disguise for the Billy & Chuck commitment ceremony on SmackDown! a few weeks ago, he actually tested the look out backstage. Apparently little to no WWE wrestlers knew about the storyline in that much detail, which allowed Bischoff to see if people who work beside him on a regular basis can tell if it's him or not.
Bischoff, in disguise, asked a few wrestlers comedic questions like "where can I find some whiskey?" Bischoff's antics were well received by the WWE locker room.
Bischoff had a bad reputation of doing similar things in WCW which garnered him quite a bit of heat when came to such locker room works as Ric Flair's heart attack angle and Brian Pillman's worked-shoot angle.

WWE Very Happy With Nidia's Work Thus Far: More Details
Many backstage are beginning to heap praise on WWE Diva, Nidia. The female winner of Tough Enough is already been dubbed as a very hard worker and someone that does their homework.
It has been said that Nidia watches tapes of all her matches to try and improve by taking notes to review and improve later.
Nidia is also open to working at Ohio Valley to refine her wrestling ability and become a better all-round worker.

WWE Having 19 PPV's a Year, New Talent, More
- Rumors started earlier this week on other sites that WWE planned on running two PPV's each month except the months of the big five PPV’s (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, King Of The Ring, SummerSlam, Survivor Series). I've gotten about 4 emails on it saying that is a complete false. Apparently, the WWE never planed on having the extra PPV's, although it was considered. The reason being, The two WWE Brand 'factions' is simple just an angle. As was the Alliance and other formed groups. If the WWE were to start separate PPV's for each of the shows it would not last long seeing as how it is just an angle, In Demand, the company that hosts all the WWE PPV's would obviously not go for the idea. 19 PPV's a year will not happen.
- Juventud Guerrera was given a try-out at this weeks past SmackDown! tapings where he wrestled Shannon Moore. Before his match agents told him to slow down his style and not try lots of high spots. Straight after this his match began and reports say he went double speed and tried all his signature spots. This is said to have angered many in management and harmed his chances of getting a WWE contract as not only did he not wrestle WWE style but he also went against WWE’s requests.

RAW Changing To Nitro, Nash's Injury, HBK Wrestling Again, More
[Credit: BlackJack Brown]
In just a few weeks time the WWE will be celebrating the 500th episode of Monday night "RAW". It is strongly rumored that the anniversary will mark a change for the company. Many expect the roster split to become much more defined, which could culminate in a whole new direction for the show, i.e. changing RAW to a completely different show as well as possibly renaming the show to RAW’s former wrestling competition, Nitro. Either way, there is no doubt that this episode of RAW will be full of surprises and special moments.
Kevin Nash is recovering very nicely from his injury and it is expected he will be returning to the WWE sooner rather than later. Many have been tagging No Mercy as a possibly return show for the big man.
HBK Shawn Michaels has all but confirmed that he will be returning back to the squared-circle, possibly at the biggest WWE event of the year, WrestleMania.

Huge News On Hogan's WWE Return, WWE Tour, Booker T/Bischoff
A report by Yomouri Sports shows that WWE will be returning to Japan in January, based on huge success from their tour earlier this year. The events will take place at the Yoyogi National Stadium Gym I.
The Japanese newspaper article indicates that the shows will feature RAW brand superstars. The article lists Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair, Triple H, Rob Van Dam, and Booker T as confirmed names for the events. However, in a surprising note, it also announces that Smackdown star Hulk Hogan will appear on the shows. That is the first mention anywhere of Hogan returning to WWE wrestling since he was written out of WWE storylines by the booking team this past August.
Of course, the chance still stands that this is not a confirmed return, but a mistake on the part of the Japanese paper, considering Hogan is such a big name that writers (not too familiar with WWE) would associate him with any WWE tours. However, WWE is looking to bring Hogan back some time this year, so if that were to happen, he could easily make Japanese shows in January 2003.

New WWE Talent, Kurt Angle News, The Rock, Kane, More;
(Thanks To Ryan Clark For The Following News)
Indy wrestler Spanky has been contacted by WWE and will work the 10/7 and 10/8 WWE TV tapings. (Dark Matches).
In Dublin, Ireland last night, they did a "WWE Tribute Show" featuring names like D-Von Dudley, Kane, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Matt Hardy, Rock, Undertaker and Goldust. Only about three hundred people attended. The company ran a quarter page ad in one of the national newspapers. Those do not come cheap!
Kurt Angle is appearing in a statewide PSA in Minnesota with Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer for the Smackdown your Vote campaign.

Major Updates On Wrestlemania 19 - Setup, Stage; more
(Thanks To Ryan Clark For The Following)
Today's Seattle Times has an article on Wrestlemania 19 coming to Seattle, WA on March 30thm, 2003.
The article goes in depth on the ballpark's 'rules' being lifted for one day when WWE roles in. The arena that usually doesn't sell T-Shirts that have the word 'suck' on them and has fans being removed for yelling obnoxiously during games will be no more.
On an interesting note, the article says that the lights that usually hang above the ring for live events will be setup on the ground. This would likely mean that if the weather was nice, they would open the roof of SADFECO field.
You can read the article at Seattletimes.nwsource.com/
