Edge learned earlier this week that he will need spinal fusion surgery which is expected to keep him out of the ring for a year. He’ll be having his C6 and C7 vertebrae fused. He will be joining a long list of others who have had recent problems with either their spinal cord or back including both Austin and Benoit. Edge commented in a recent WWE.com interview that his body has taken a toll from so many steel cage matches, TLC, and other various hardcore matches. Over the last six years, Edge added, "If there’s a show, I’m on it, and I think for a while now, my body’s been saying, ‘Hey, can we take a break?’"

Latest On Edge's Condition, March 12, 2003
The word backstage last night at SmackDown! was that Edge's neck surgery went as well as possible. That is good news for WWE, as he was clearly set to win the title in the future, and could be a valuable main-eventer for WWE down the road. It's never good when a superstar gets injured, especially one of Edge's caliber, so it's good to see his surgery was a success.
