BROCK WINS RUMBLE, EARNS SHOT AT ANGLE
Brock Lesnar earned a trip to WrestleMania Sunday night by winning the 30-man Royal Rumble Match at the FleetCenter in Boston. Lesnar won the final entry into the Royal Rumble Match at the start of the event by defeating the Big Show in a brutal grudge match. Lesnar finally managed to put Big Show away with a powerful F-5. He made an immediate impact after making his entry at the No. 29 spot. Brock simultaneously eliminated Charlie Haas and Sheldon Benjamin, then tossed Matt Hardy outside the ring with an F-5!
Brock earned himself a title shot at WrestleMania 19 against Kurt Angle, who prevailed in his title defense against Chris Benoit. Benoit and Angle were expected to show off their tremendous in-ring abilities, but nobody could have been prepared for the action that erupted in this match. Benoit was inches away from winning the title on several occasions. He landed a thundering swan dive head butt off a leap that covered nearly the entire ring! Benoit later had Angle ready to tap from the Crippler Crossface, but the WWE Champion somehow reversed into the ankle lock! Benoit twisted away several times, but Angle locked the finisher on and hung on until Benoit had no choice but to tap out! After the match, the fans gave Benoit a standing ovation for his incredible in-ring effort.
Chris Jericho thought he had gotten the best of Shawn Michaels when he made HBK the first man eliminated from the Royal Rumble Match. But HBK foiled Y2J's plan to go down in history by racing to the ring later on and hurling Jericho over the top rope!
Scott Steiner gave Triple H fits in their showdown for the World Heavyweight Championship. The Cerebral Assassin finally decided to play it safe and get disqualified in order to keep the title intact. But referee Earl Hebner refused to issue a disqualification for a count out or even after The Game shoved him. Finally, Hebner called for the bell after Triple H nailed Steiner with a sledgehammer! Big Poppa Pump wouldn't let Triple H get away that easy, though. The Big Bad Booty Daddy got several good sledgehammer shots of his own in on the champion!
In other action, the Dudley Boyz upset William Regal and Lance Storm to win the World Heavyweight Championship. While Chief Morley argued with the referee, Regal produced a set of brass knucks. Regal fell victim to a 3D, however, and D-Von used the knucks on Storm to get the pinfall!
Also, Torrie Wilson appeared to have gotten some closure in the saga between herself and Dawn Marie. Torrie soundly defeated her stepmother in an emotion-filled match.
