Thanks to reader Daniel Thomas for making us aware of this:
GamesRadar.com (part of MSN) is reporting that THQ has confirmed work on a fifth installment of the hit WWE SmackDown! video game series for PS2.
The game is expected to improve the in-ring competition on all aspects, making it much more realistic and strategic. Some things that will be improved are the submission move sytem, finishing moves (they can no longer be performed in strange places of the ring), and strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Spike Dudley will not be able to powerbomb the Big Show.
Additionally, the Season mode will be made more realistic, with a "risk and reward" system, where successful work in the ring earns "money" that can be used to buy improvements. More backstage areas are also expected to be added.
The game is also set to have more diva action, with some female gimmick matches (bra and panties, mud, etc) being thrown in the mix.
Finally, there is no word right now if the game will be online-compatible, but THQ feels that if they cannot get a great online system programmed, they won't bother with the online feature.
