When the contract for WWE SmackDown! is up with the UPN network in August, there has been some rumored talk that UPN might cut the show down to one hour. Instead of the usual 2 hour broadcast WWE SmackDown! currenly portrays. The UPN network is wanting to pay the WWE a lower licensing fee, and also wants to cut back the show to one hour.
Even thought it is the top rated show currently on the UPN network, it doesn’t currently act as a lead in for any other UPN show. Despite the recent high ratings, UPN gets a lower ad rate for SmackDown because of the wrestling gimmick.
The WWE would probably convert Heat into Smackdown if this happens, or revamp the current Saturday show for more options.
