Huge Drop For Smackdown Rating - Some Good News In It?
The Smackdown ratings are in for last night and they are not too impressive. After a 3.7 last week, the show took a decent-sized hit, falling to 3.3.
The primary cause of this drop is that last night was Halloween, which would especially impact the younger market. Due to Halloween activities, there was an estimated fifty percent ratings drop among teenage males.
Many would also guess that the poor RAW from Monday night hurt ratings. That possibly had some effect, but the statistics show that if RAW had any effect it was very trivial. Being that the 18-49 demographic actually increased from last week, the only key drop is in the teenage market, as mentioned above. Thus, the Halloween activities held the rating down, but had last night not been Halloween, it looks as if Smackdown would have even had a higher rating than last week. Therefore, as poor as many felt RAW was, it didn't hurt Smackdown, showing that viewers really are identifying the two as different brands.

WWE SmackDown! Rating Shows Good Signs
This past Thursday night's WWE SmackDown! scored a 3.4 broadcast rating, with a 5 share, according to Neilsen Media Research. That was enough to put UPN in third place on the 8-10PM hours in the network race, behind NBC and CBS.
With RAW also scoring a 3.4 cable rating this week, and the ratio of broadcast to cable ratings in terms of viewership, that means SmackDown's audience is about 20 percent larger than RAW's.

WWE SmackDown! Ratings Go Down
This past Thursday night's edition of WWE SmackDown! scored a 3.2 broadcast rating, with a 5.0 market share. Overall household viewership was down approximately 6% this past Thursday night according to Nielsen Media Research figures, so I wouldn't look too much into the slight decrease in this week's SmackDown! number.

WWE SmackDown! Rating Holds Strong During Holiday Season
Last night's edition of WWE SmackDown! scored a 3.4 broadcast rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. I haven't been able to get hold of the quarter hour breakdown, but if past shows are any indication, there was likely consistant growth from start to finish.
With RAW holding strong in numbers this past Monday, and SmackDown! last night, WWE has to be having a happy holiday season. Many expecting a drastic drop in numbers, especially with many of the bigger shows doing poorly in ratings last night. However, despite the holidays, WWE programming has held its own in the ratings.

WWE SmackDown! Rating Rises May 23, 2003
Last night's edition of WWE SmackDown! scored a 3.3 broadcast rating, with a 6.0 share. That is up from the previous week's 3.1 broadcast rating.
Many are looking to the fact that all major competition aside from the NBA playoffs were in reruns last night.
